AXA Car Insurance - Your credit card is about to expire

I received an email this morning from AXA insurance with the subject heading "Your credit card is about to expire". At first I did a double take as I assumed it was from my credit card company and that and the AXA bit didn't tie up.
As I read on it is reference to my car insurance and the email reads:
Your payment card has expired and your policy renewal is due within 60 days. Please log in (link) to your AXA account and update your card details. If you have any difficulty doing this please call us on 0800 209 6666.
Please note - Your renewal invite will be in your AXA Account 25 days prior to your renewal.
I'm troubled by this for a couple fo reasons:
1. Whether my card ahs expired or not is not really relevant. I don't need my insurer to tell me that.
2. It is rather presumptous of them to insist I update my details when I have yet to receive renewal notification.
Any one else out there exprienced similar?

You're lucky they told you.
Normally they ask the bank for details of the new card, they take the money, and send you a letter a week later.
Write to them if you don't want to autorenew, and write to them when they send you a letter saying they will autorenew anyway.0 -
are you sure it's a valid email and not a scam email trying to get your card details? legitimate emails rarely give you a link to click.0

Very good point there.
Never follow any link in emails, always log on through the normal home page.0 -

AXA Insurance's customer service number is 0844 209 6666 (not 0800) so I'd use that if you plan to get in touch with them. I'm not aware of any scams aimed at AXA Insurance customers, but its better to be safe than sorry.
Intuitively, I expect what they're trying to do is to make sure that if you did plan to renew by default that this is possible (it wouldn't be if your card expires before the renewal date - which they would know as you need to give expiry date when you purchase things by card).
Whether this is AXA trying to make your life easier in advance, or them trying to make it easier to auto-renew you, or a mix of both, probably depends on your perspective.
Not updating your card details shouldn't make a blind bit of difference to what happens when you get your renewal notice. If you want to renew, you'd have to give the details of your new card then, so if you have any concerns then I'd go with that.0 -
Wrong, but similar number, sounds like a clever scam.0
