Spar - Bread Extortion!

Hiya,
Forgive me for sounding like Victor Meldrew, but has anyone else noticed how expensive bread is at their local 'Spar' shop?
I rarely use my local Spar, as it's so expensive for everything, but I had to go and get some bread today...
To my horror, their bread is priced between £1.10 (for Hovis 50/50 I think it was) and £1.88!
Is it just me, or is that extortionate?
They do a cheaper loaf; Their cheapest 'Spar own white bread' which tastes like rubber, and even that is 85p!
I appreciate that they're a business, and not a charity, but it does annoy me that Spar shops always seem to be in low income areas, where most of the people don't have cars, and so they charge ridiculous prices.
Another thing I've noticed with this Spar shop, is that the staff (as lovely as the ladies in there are) never offer a 'full' receipt, which I've always found odd.
Every other shop always gives a receipt, as a matter of course. The few times I use the Spar, whenever I ask for a receipt for the few items I buy - ie - milk, bread etc, I get the "We've got a right one here" look! :rotfl:
The cynic in me suspects, that they've been told by the Manager (aren't all Spar's franchises?) not to hand out receipts, as it'll attract too much attention to their rip - off prices!
Thank the heavens for online shopping! :T

Was it similar to the Hovis best of both which is £1.15 in Asda?

Kingsmill 50/50 is on offer 2 for £2, but that is only an offer usual price £1.15.

I think it was Kingsmill 50 / 50, but Spar did have the Hovis 'best of both' too I think.
All the bread at the Spar was pretty much 85p - best part of £2.00.
Christ on a bike. Bread has obviously gone up everywhere!
Any recommendations from you guys, as to where's best to go for cheap but tasty bread?
Many Thanks,

PS - Anyone else noticed the receipt thang, with the Spar?0

Probably your local bakers if you have one, will still probably be in the £1 - £2 range though.
Cheapest is probably when it is on offer at supermarkets.0 -

My local spar is more like a glorified off licence, rather than a super market or small super market (whatever they are called?!).
They too would probably only give you a receipt if you asked for one, as most people wouldn't want one if they were only buying a paper for example.0 -

Ah. You mean a 'mini - mart'?! :rotfl:
Fair point re the receipt.
I'm probably being a *bit* anal.. It won't be the first time!0 -
I just like going to my Spar, for a chat with the ladies.
Oh dear.
Now, that all sounds a bit wrong..0 -
I'm going to have to get myself a freezer methinks!
Not just for bread, but for everything, as it'll save me a fortune.0 -
Aldi white sliced has consistently been around 47p for at least the last couple of years. Not the greatest bread in the world, but then again Hovis and Kingsmill are also pretty grim.Stompa0
