insure room in shared house

Hi,
I'm currently living in a shared house (with 5 other people). I have my own bedroom with a lockable door and would like to get insurance as I have about £5,000 worth of equipment in it.
I rang up a few insurers in the UK and they all told me they couldn't insure my room - there must be a way! I trust the people in my house but I need to prepare for the unexpected (fire, burglary - especially over christmas)
If you know of how I can insure the contents of my room, please let me know

Hi - very few companies will insure shared houses and Endsleigh is the best known of these. They are not cheap but have been around for many years.0

I think you would probably have to insure the whole house contents, but I agre Endsleigh are worth a try.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
If it is stuff like computers stereo etc and personal stuff then Endsleigh will insure it. They also insure furniture etc in shared houses , my daughter is a student and she insures all the furniture in her flat with them. Her personal stuff, laptop etc is insured under our all risks house insurance as the flat is only her term-time address. Also Endsleigh are quite expensive for laptops etc, but in your case may be your only choice. Cost varies with postcode.0
