selling a contract phone

Hi.
If i wanted to sell a new contract phone how does the warranty work on that. Ive got a new phone I'm keeping the contract but I want to sell the phone. will the warranty still be valid for the buyer?

The warranty probably applies to you only as the contract is was provided with is in your name.

If you are comfortable with it though you can sell it with full warranty and just advise the return would need to be with you, and then you deal with the warranty, if you can be bothered to do that!

I think it depends on the phone. HTC for example, allow anyone to register the phone for their limited warranty, provided they have a copy of proof of purchase. It doesn't have to have been them to actually buy the phone though.

Most buyers don't ask about it... i bought a Blackberry on eBay that was only two weeks old and didn't even think about asking; i sold my HTC 7 Mozart and the buyer didn't ask about the warranty.

Do what I did. Sold some refurbed PS3's under warranty. I put in the listing that if faulty to return to me for replacement or repair.

From the buyer's POV, I'd be wary of buying a phone and definitely wouldn't buy if it was contract. For one, it'd be too easy to sell the phone, then call up the network provider and say "My phone was lost/stolen", and have it blocked, then get sent out a new phone. For another, the phone belongs to the contract provider until the contract has been paid off.
