    Hi

We have decided to take our 2 daughters (they will be 2 and 4) to Disney Florida next year (even though we can't afford it!!).

I think you've answered your own query there.

This is money saving site and judging by your statement there you may well be getting yourself into serious debt for this trip.

Ask yourself, is it really that necessary, especially with one child who will be too young to remember much?

I have found an excellent villa in Remington, Kissimmee (where we stayed in 2008) on Holiday-rentals.co.uk (which I have used before)for £995 for the 3 weeks and can find flights for £2300 so looking like the package deal is about the right price. Not sure what the bronze Thomson villa would be like though and not exactly sure which area it would be in so may be worth booking villa/flights seperately to ensure we get a nice villa in a location that we like even though it will cost the same amount of money. Thanks for all the advice LucyLocket

That sounds like a good plan. I understand why some people feel that there are benefits in waiting until the children are older but I feel that Orlando has something for everyone regardless of age.

The OP states clearly that this holiday, which is a year away, will be saved for. She makes no mention at all of incurring debt.

I took my children when they were 5 and 6 - my 5 year old cant remember the trip and i remember she got quite upset when she wasnt allowed on some of the rides because she wasnt tall enough.
For such a wonderful holiday, especially as you are planning 3 weeks not the usual 2, i would wait a couple of years - your children will then be able to enjoy all of it, they wont be scared of big people in costumes and will be able to go on a lot more rides. The weather will be hot (not as hot as July or August, but still a lot hotter than the UK) and you will all be able to enjoy, and more importantly, remember it. Small children get tierd very quickly and this sort of holiday involves a lot of walking - you can, of course hire strollers but that will be extra expense for you unless you already have a double stroller you can take with you. You will get a lot of wonderful memories, but be careful, you might find you get a lot of horrible ones too when you have tierd, whingy children letting you know they are not happy!

If you really are determined to go, why not go for 2 weeks, make it a little cheaper for yourselves and then go for the 3 weeks in a few years?

She clearly states in her opening statement "even though we can't afford it."

Also with uncertain times ahead, is it worth the risk?

Obviously it will be a struggle to save £6000 for this holiday (would be nice if it was easy to find £6000) but I will not be getting into serious debt for it (I am a qualified accountant so would be very embarassing if I did!). If I put the holiday off for another year or two I would probably be in the same position as there are always things that eat up your money when you have a house, cars and children. Think it would be worth 'tightening' our belts for though, myeldest daughter loved it when we took her for her 1st birthday. The holiday is obviously as much for myself and hubby as for the children too :-)
