Advice re: selling car on eBay and request for VIN no

Hi Everyone

I am currently selling my car on eBay. I have this morning received the following message from a potential bidder/buyer:

Could you please write the VIN-number of the car. I want to buy the car for export. Therefore, it is important to know the exact date of production of the car. I can check that by VIN.

I have provided the original registration date of the vehicle on my listing ...and I realise if anyone wanted to come out to view the car, they could get the VIN Number themselves if they wanted to - but are there any reasons why I shouldn't give them the VIN number?

Thanks in advance - I just wanted to check I wouldn't be opening myself up to anything dodgy!!

No, it's not a classic car ... it's a 2001 (Y) reg. But I am selling it with a private plate on it so don't know if that might have something to do with them asking for the VIN?

I would find the build date and tell them that instead. If you listed it in the cars section they should be able to do an HPI
on the car. Not sure if that gives the manufacture date?

i think the scam here is that the person requesting the vin number sees that your car on private plate and is thinking this might be swapped to another car
in the meantime while all this is jammed up at swansea he nicks a car like yours and exports it with your chassis number but says it not problem as private plate is going on retention

    something like that anyway
dont supply i say these people spend all day thinking wheezes up but probably dont or wont want a paper trail from hpi

This is a tough one as you need the vin to do a HPI check.
