I'd just like to share my experiance so if it happens to anyone else this might help...
I am 19, and haven't got a credit history, missed a few direct debits etc. I wanted an overdraft / credit card, so I phoned up the HBOS phone bank, they took all details etc etc, and processed the application, I was rejected for both an overdraft and a credit card. My score was too low. So I went to my branch for a meeting, and I was told, if i was to open a whole new account then I'd have a better chance as the score required for a new one isnt as high as for a current customer.
So we went through the application, and guess what, I get offered an overdraft, could have been £500, but i went for £250, and got a guarenteed credit card, of £1250.
So the lesson here is, don't do ure banking on the phone, do it in the bank.
