I used to be under the mistaken impression that we British can live and work in the US, since we are their ancestors
Apparently not! lol
Does anyone know if it's possible for a british self-employed person to be able to take up permanent residency in the US? And if so, how much it costs?
After checking on various US visa websites I seem to be stuck at a dead end

Thanks, ya I read that, but there's no reference to the British self-employed. I found a reference on Wikipedia:
"an alien is not permitted to come to the United States to engage in self-employment in the United States."
But would rather trust an official source than wikipedia.0 -
If you intend to start a business over there you could try an Investment and Business Visa.
I don't think it is permanent though. IIRC they chuck you out if you stop making a profit.0 -

Interesting ! :cool:0 -
They can't work here either without the correct visa, which isn't easy to get - so it isn't just one way.0
