Petwear Wash Bag Any good? Any alternatives?

I was browsing pet care shops when I came accross these;
http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=302&pf_id=8248
Apparently you put your dog bedding in and it stops all the hair straying into your machine and bunging up pipes,or redistributing the hair over the next three loads of washing.
I cant find out what it's made of, its quite pricey so I was wondering if it was possible to make one myself, or if an ordinary large fine mesh wash bag would do as well.
Also how much potential damage is the dog hair likely to cause to the washing machine?
Thanks, Alison

I use an old pillow case with a hair bobble to tie it up, does the job just as well i find!0

That's just what I was going to suggest!:D
Or what about one of these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laundry-Bag-Toy-Sack-bag-Extra-Large-Natural-Cotton-/230588895071?pt=UK_Laundry&hash=item35b02b4f5f (there are loads of others but you'd probably need to remove the "toggle" bit on some of them - this one doesn't seem to have them).
I hate to think of the amount of pet hair that goes down my machine's drain!:eek:
TBH, I've got loads of towels, "dog duvet covers" etc and tend to store them up and wash in several loads - followed by a wash with the machine on empty to clean it out (not very MSE but a 30 deg wash only takes 38 mins so not toooooo bad).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Surely bagging it defeats the object of washing them-the hair will still be all over it?!
I wash my doggy bits all together, hoover any very hairy bits first, then clean out the seals etc in the machine straight after. I've not had a problem with hair on subsequent washes this way. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
I use something like this that I got from ebay, think it was called horse something, it's big enough for a horse rug and zips up tight. I use it to wash all my dog and horse stuff. Everything gets clean but the hair doesn't go in the machine.
Shake the bag out afterwards and it's gone. Some hair remains on the things I'm washing but they are clean and I usually bang them about outside before and after washing anyway and as long as they are clean nothing is going to get all the hair out of my horses rugs.0 -

Thanks for all your replies.
Decided to save my money and not bother.
Ill just try and remember to time my doggy bedding washing so that I can do my monthly 90degree cleaning wash straight after.
Ive also sometimes stuck doggy bedding in the tumble dryer for 5 mins before washing them as that seems to get a lot of hair out. As long a beddin not too smelly, I usually put a towel in afterwards sprayed with lavender or similar .0
