I need help with the layout/what to buy for my living room, its currently totally empty apart from a tv  Ive moved out of my parents and living alone for the first time
What do you have in your living room furniture wise and how is it laid out?
I have a sofa ordered so thats a start I guess.

For me the minimum would be sofa, coffee table, something to put TV/DVR/games consoles etc. on/in, book shelf. Also like a desk or table for the PC, something to put the printer on, something to put the stereo on/in, and storage for CDs/DVDs.
I also have a small dinner table that I use for other things too.
It depends on how you live your life and what the rest of your house is like - if I had a separate dining room or a dining kitchen, and/or a separate "office" for PCs and printers then I wouldn't need to cram everything into the lounge :-)0 -

TV stand (which holds all my DVD, games, etc), coffee table (in the centre), sofa, arm chairs, speakers and a floor standing light in the corner. That's about it.0 -
Thank you
My new sofa is a 3 seater so i will have that along one wall then on the opposite side Im thinking of having my tv on a corner unit, then a wooden sideboard on that wall
Maybe next to the sofa have a nest of tables, or a coffee table between the sofa and tv?0 -
If you need more storage space it is possible to get big "book shelf" style things to put the TV in the middle with shelves around. I have a TV corner until and other things at the moment on one wall but I reckon it would have been neater with 1 big unit.0

When I first moved into an unfurnished place, I was told that all I needed was a bed to sleep on and something to sit on when watching TV!
You've already sorted the TV sofa so that's you sorted!!
Seriously, I'd wait until you've got the sofa, then see how it fits into the room and how you actually use the room. I don't have a coffee table as in my living room it would take up too much space and make the room look too small.
I do have bookcases and CD / DVD stores too.0 -
In my living room I just have the sofa along one wall with a side table each end, along the opposite wall a large tv unit and then on one of the side walls an open backed funkyish shelving unit.Everything else is elsewhere in the house,I like the living room quite spacious feelingIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0

Enjoy your new life
You do need some sort of occasional table(s) so people don't have to put their coffee cup on the floor, a nest would be good if your room is long.
We've got a coffee table with drawers in, it keeps the carp out of sight.
Our sideboard I've sorted military style.
L'H drawer for letter writing paraphernalia, envelopes pads etc.
R/H drawer for all our photo albums.
Middle drawer is allowable tat like phone chargers, binoculars etc.

We have a 3-seater sofa along one wall, then at the wall in front of it we got a TV bench, Tall display cabinet to the left of it and a wall cabinet on the right of the TV. We just had this furniture delivered last week, it is by Brinkmann-hc and look really good. Ok, not Ikea prices. This was to replace our TV stand taht we had and a display cabinet from the dining room. Now all the dining set, drings, ornaments fit within the new furniture.
We have engineered oak flooring, furniture is black gloss with wallnut, sofa is brown chocolate (we didn't change sofa, as it is still ok). In the far corner from the sofa will be a fishtank.
We are not having a coffee table. The dining room is accross the archway, and if we want to sit at the table, we can go there.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Our front living room working around the room anti-clockwise we have a 4 seater sofa along one wall, the tv and cabinet in the bay window, a tall bookshelf in the alcove, the mantlepiece, another tall bookcase in the other alcove, an antique thupenny bit table with a lamp on it then a large round swivel armchair. We have a coffee table in the middle.
In our second living room from the door anti-clockwise we have a sideboard, fitted shelving/cupboards in the alcove, mantlepiece, antique bucket chair, tv cabinet and tv in other alcove, patio doors to the garden then an upstand lamp and a 3 seater sofa. There is a chest type coffee table in the middle.
Flooring is herringbone oak parquet throughout with a rug in the middle of each room.0
