Deleted a file by mistake: how do I recover it please?

Options
Hi there

I mistakenly deleted some files last Monday. They're not in my 'bin'.

Is there anyway I can recover them please? I thought I'd backed up, but keep getting an error message that back up failed.

Thanks.

You could try "Recuva", available here for free: http://www.piriform.com/recuva

    Thank Ximian

I just did that and my files were on the F drive. I've saved them onto my desktop but when I try and ope the excel and word documents, it's all goobledegook [spelling?].

    Any suggestions please?

    Thanks.

If Recuva can't do it, maybe Photorec can. It's more tricky, but the information on how to use it is all there:

It found the excel document I was looking for, it's just when I try to open it, it comes up goobledegook.

File may have been corrupted in the recovery. Do you not have a back up?

I thought I'd backed up onto a disk. However, when I insert the disk, there's nothing on it.
