Can't update software for Olympus VN-480PC voice recorder: please help!

Hi Tech peeps!
Yes, I'm back again Thanks for all your previous help, but I have one more thing to ask (I doubt it will be the last!
).
I have an Olympus VN-480PC little dictaphone thingy. I bought it about 4 years ago, so it's not all that old, but with Windows updating as often as it does etc., the CD of software sent with it does not work. I have the program on the laptop, but it does not seem to let me do anything (e.g import voice files from the recorder, which itself works perfectly). I've tried to download a software upgrade from the net (Olympus official site) several times, but it's doing nothing.
The only things I can do in the program itself are play existing files which were previously downloaded from the recorder.
The recorder itself seems to recognise when it is plugged into the computer as it flashes up 'PC' when I do so, but that's about it.
Any advice, please?
