Tangle Teezer hairbrush - is it as good as they say it is?

My 6 year old has the worst knotty hair imaginable. She's unfortunately inherited my very fine hair but add in the curls, food and volume of it all, it gets so knotty, I'm sick of the running battles to brush her hair and need a decent hairbrush that doesn't cost the earth that will work.

The reviews on Amazon for the Tangle Teezer hairbrush sound too good to be true - are they? Really hope not!!

Is anyone using one and how good is it?

Get one - you won't regret it :).
Tangle Teezer is the only hairbrush my DD has ever managed to get through her hair and brush it properly. Don't get me wrong, if I don't finger-comb her hair through with lots of conditioner when its wet she is still prone to knots, but she does brush her hair properly with the Tangle Teezer, no crying and no pain.

eta - to me, with no curls and fine hair, the Tangle Teezer just feels like a paddle brush, but clearly it does something magical in curly hair!

My daughter, who has loads of fine curly hair has been using a TT for nearly 2 years now, it is fantastic! I even use one on my younger son whose hair isn't particularly tangly, but he hated having i brushed so it saves the tears.
  • They are brilliant things, honestly. We have 2 in the house...one for my daughter and one for the dog. It is fair to say that we wouldn't get near either of them with anything else. Would also recommend the Johnsons's detangling spray, if you have not tried it. It is in a green bottle and the combination of that and a TT brush makes my beautiful girl's hair perfectly manageable.

Sounds like a must buy then! We have tears and screaming pretty much every hair brushing time despite using conditioner. It would be a blessed relief to be able to brush her hair without it hurting. I honestly don't know how she gets it so knotty! She's a right fidget in bed though and still manages to get yoghurt, cereal, you name it in her hair every day.

Ooh, may have to invest in the detangling spray as well!

Honestly worth it, to the extent that last time we ran out my husband and I 'accidentally' forgot to brush her hair that day! Bad parents...

Love it! I have to admit to sometimes 'forgetting' when I really don't have the energy to deal with the screaming.

One quick question though, does the tangle teezer work on lots of hair? DD's hair is fine but there's quite a lot of it. Will it get down to the bottom layers of hair or will I still need to do it all in small sections?

If you do pigtails/2 plaits in her hair before she goes to bed she won't get so many knots (can you tell I've asked a few hairdressers in my time about coping with DD's hair ;)?). She will be able to sleep fine as long as they are not too tight, but don't do one plait only because that will be an uncomfy bump at the back of her head on the pillow.
I've had to cut a knot out of my DD's hair before, it was under the bulk of her hair at the nape of her neck, so we do the plaits a lot to avoid having to go through all that again!

you won't have to do it in such small sections - my DD brushes the top layer through to the ends, then holds her hair in a ponytail and brushes from the underneath out to the ends.

I sometimes do the pigtail thing too and always tie her hair back for school but when I'm working late or have to leave for work and my husband is on duty he doesn't put her hair up as he can't do plaits or decent pony tails.

Glad to hear so many positives for the brush.

Have had a bit of a look and Amazon appears to be the cheapest but does anyone know anywhere else that sells it for less than about £9?
