Avast Preventing Internet Browsing

I've used Avast for years without problem.
The other day I was prompted to download the updated version. I checked it out and it was fine. So I downloaded it.
I've now found that Avast actually prevents me from using any internet browser (IE, Firefox, Chrome). I get messages like 'IE cannot display this page' on all websites.
But, when I disable Avast my browsers can view the net as normal.
I've uninstalled it and re-downloaded it and it is no better.
I've disabled/deleted WebRep and Sandbox, too.
Do you know what has gone wrong?
I've had to use AVG in the meantime, but this makes my connection so slow.
Thank you very much.:p:p

Three times in the last few months that they've had bad updates that caused this for everyone who got the bad update, but it doesn't seem to be the case for you as I've not seen the usual complaints elsewhere.
Did you use the aswCLEAR tool? http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
Might be worth a post in the Avast forum:

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Firewall?
- Does it allow avast access? (avastSvc.exe, avast.setup)
- There was an issue in some 7 SP1 64 bit systems where the webshield would block browsing until the webshield was restarted.
- Seems the fix for this was: Settings (upper right corner of GUI) -> Troubleshooting and enable the "Load Avast service only after other services..."
