EDF Surcharge

I've just noticed on my 2011-2012 statement something called a 'Surcharges' for a particular sum of money. Does anyone know what this is and what it's a surcharge for?

Thanks

My house was built in the 60s and has always had gas. The only thing I can come up with is it's the standing charge that my particular tariff attracts. The surcharge is about £156 for 2011-12

Very likely, but might be worth giving them a call/e-mail just to check?

I thought EDF removed standing charges? Why does it differ per household?
  • it depends on the tarrif - if you have tier 1 and tier 2 rates then theres no SC (although really the SC is folded into the tier 1 rate) - with a standing charge you`ll get 1 rate for energy (unless its E7 then theres day and night rate as well)

I asked for a call back which came today!!!! Not bad customer service from EDF, called June 14th for a callback it arrived 1 month later. Turns out it's a standing charge.

Great idea to call it something else.....;)

I suspect it's really to pay for a new IT system and a few more phones.
