Think I would have been somewhat annoyed, I would have refused it and asked for another if the SA had done this to a purchase of mine.
Presentation does matter, a savaged box doesn't look great if the OP had wanted a torn/ripped/shabby looking box they would have bought the mobile from eBay or the like!

An extra minute to take care opening the box, replace the items carefully and in the right section is hardly taxing is it?!
Argos always have crazy queues around this time of year but longer queues are hardly a likely cause of the SA taking care when opening the boxes of these items, if that's the case then they should employ additional staff to deal with this procedure they've introduced ...and some training?
    The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

Woah woah woah!!!! I never said at any point that the sales assisitant was stupid.

I know you didnt.... That was me that said it....

I dont think this thread has been hijacked... The OP asked a question to which they were given a reply, and the fact that the matter is so trivial yet she wants a full replacement/refund just makes it worse.. If it was the last one in the shop would they be so picky.. This board helps a lot of people but to dwell on a thing so trivial is a waste.. The original poster has not even had the decency to come back and let us know whats happened...

There is no point in giving people false hope... All this "send a letter to customer services " is no use.. The OP wants a new box before Christmas or her sons Christmas will be ruined.. They will not take the phone back because nothing is wrong with it and they cant replace the box because the IMEI numbers wont be the same (BOX/PHONE).

Anyway... If the OP doesnt have the decency to reply to thier own thread to let us know what happened then Im not wasting time posting to this thread anymore.

What was the outcome of that little episode ?

I will find out in the week when i pop in, I would hope that they told him to go away (nicely) but knowing the store manager anything is possible!!
  • Opening the box is also done to protect YOU , to make sure there IS a phone in the box when its given to you . You wouldnt be very happy if a dishonest person in the stockroom or warehouse etc. decided to help themselves , only for you to come back later saying "There was no fone in this box" . You would look like a complete idiot , and they would probably presume you had received the phone and where trying to dupe them .
  • It's common practice for phones and high value items to be shown to customers before giving them, not just in Argos but in many stores, in fact it has always been the case with jewellery, it's just a way to minimise the dreaded "it wasn't in the box" type fraud that happens occassionally... its to protect the store and the customer, but I agree the execution of this check was not up to standard in this instance and a sharp knife or scissors should have been used to create a clean cut.
  • i must say, i dont often use scissors because they've always gone missing. plus most of the people that buy mobiles from us are either foreign or old so dont understand what you're saying when you explain you have to open the phone (i do always tell them first) so by the time you've tracked down some scissors and gone back then theyve disappeared, and you get shoted at if you move the phone out of reach so they cant walk off with it lol. but i have little tricks for peeling em off so they dont look a mess
