How long do you expect a gas fire to last ?

Hi
Five years ago we replaced our old fireplace and installed a very nice and expensive Gas Fire. A Gazco Logic IPF powerflue.
We thought that by buying a better quality fire it would last longer and so an investment and cheaper in the long run.
The fire still works but has developed an annoying habit of just switching itself off and then trying to relight itelf.
After much to-ing and fro-ing with the gas engineer. He's advised that it needs a new fan and the bits and pieces that go alongside.
The cost of this part is virtually the same price as we paid for the fire so its not realistic to fix.
To be honest I feel like taking this up with Gazco as I would expect a fire like this to last longer than five years. Although I realise there is little I can actually do because the fire is out of warrenty.
Am I being unreasonable ? I'd really appreciate some other peoples views on this.
Thanks
Jen

Write to the manufacturer (or ring) and ask if they have a rep in your area, or ask them to recommend someone in your area to fix it.
If it's an expensive gas fire you should get a lot more than five years.0 -
Just make sure your gas fitter is not ripping you off. Its not the first time that gas fitters treble the prices of parts they buy. Also it is possible that the gas fitter isnt getting the parts at the lowest price possible.
Do a search for the parts on the internet and see what you come up with.0 -
Thankyou
I've emailed Gazco explained the situation, asked their view and expressed my disappointment if the life expectancy on the fire is 5 years.
Before we do anything we would seek alternate quotes but I have to say that so far we've found this shop to be OK rather than imediately saying you'll have to replace X Y & Z and it will cost you £xxx they are more likely to fiddle and try to fix.
They've been out 2 - 3 times to look at it with no charge.
