Interview delays and clashes-what to do?

Hello
I wonder if omeone has been in this situation before. I am drafted for redundancy and I have been applying for a lot of jobs internally. So far I have done four interviews, but no luck, although I got very good feedback. Now I am booked for one on Wednesday and an assessment for another position next week: this last one would be the one I really, really want, as it is better paid and with people I have worked before.
Now, if let's say I would be offered the one I am interviewing for this week (and for which I was encouraged to apply after a failed interview , as they thought I would be very suited for it), for whow long would I be able to 'think about it', given the fact that the other interview will not be until the 5th of July ? I would effectively be half way through the process- as it happens, the same HR Consultant is handling the assessments for both...
I knew this would happen- I applied for my preferred position about a month ago and they have taken forever to shortlist...
Thanks,
A

Technically you can accept a job but give backword provided that you give notice - literally. Whatever is the stautory or contractual notice. But given that this is internal, I might suggest that you speak to the HR consultant and ask for their support - explain the situation. Ask for their help and advice. You can't be the only person in such a situation with the company. And the chances are they will understand and help!0

Of course it coudl be that I get offer none... but I want to think that I stand a good chance on both of them. One of the hiring managers (this week´s one) knows my situation and so far has been very supportive...
Thanks SarEl, I will probably talk to the HR person. When you mean ´notice´I guess is you accept the first job... then get offered the second and give notice ( say a month) and move on... is that what you mean?
The truth is, where I work, (very well known place selling buildings and getting rid of a lot of people at the moment) things can be very, very slow...so who knows.0 -
Yes that is what I meant. perhaps not a game you want to play in the circumstances, but that is the law. Despite everything your employer seems to want to keep you and you appear to be valued - it can't be beyond them to understand the difference between a job you would take and a job your would yearn for. People who get their dream jobs tend to put in that bit more! No employer in their right mind is going to want to pass up on the possibility - I am sure things can be arranged!0

That's right- the thing is , the place is so massive that often they don't know what's goign round the corner. But I think it is a happy coincidence that the assessments are handled by the same person. I guess , depending on how long they take to deliberate wih the dream job (if I pass that test, that is), it might be a matter of two weeks to 'think about it' ... now that woudld be a happy situation to be in, to be able to choose!0
