My Dyson has finally given up the ghost after years of faithfull service and repairs. It's time for a new one.
I've never had a cylinder vacuum so would like other peoples opinions....
Cylinder v Upright?
My floors are carpet, laminate and tile so need to vacuum all types of flooring, I need the hose to reach all the way upstairs, and I like to use the tools for regular dusting of skirtings etc.
Thanks.

I've swapped my upright Dyson (big heavy cumbersome) for a Miele cylinder.....
Sooo much easier to manouvre and lift.
So much so, that it outways the emptying of the disposable bags.
use my dyson Just for the fireplace...0 -
Can't beat a Henry and it is light enough to lift anywhereBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I agree. Solid and reliable, relatively cheap.0 -
My dyson has also recently broke but i had used it so much with the kiddies and my love of hoovering, i'm suprised it lasted as long as it did!
I bought a russell hobs cylinder one to tide me over until the pennies are spare to buy another one and i really wish i hadn't bothered, as in comparison to the dyson, it it absolute cack, i am debating on whether i should get a stowaway or a upright due to lack of room, it is definately going to be a dyson again.

we have just bought a new upright, had a cylinder for a few months but it did not have good suction & when I saw what the upright sucked up straight away......scary!
I find an upright easier on my back for pushing!0 -
I love my cylindar dyson. It is much lighter than the uprights. The hose doesn't reach all the way upstairs, but it's not that hard to do half with it sat on the upstairs landing and half with it sat in the hallway. The actual sucky bit it really thin too, so t reaches all the way under beds and other furniture. With an upright you can only go up to things and i am lazy and don't like to have to move furniture that often!!Sarah.

I like uprights, if the stair hose is long enough. They always seem to suck up more than a cylinder, easier to move around and store away better. I have carpet and laminate and providing I can get an adjustable brush head with the hoover then it does the both types easily [adjustable head needed for laminate and then stairs - brush bit for stairs and non brush for laminate]

I find uprights easier on the back but cylinders are handy for the stairs. I've decided that when my current hoover breaks down I'm going for the best of both worlds and getting a Bissell lift off, the ease of an upright with the added bonus of a cylinder.
It's on offer for £79.99 at the moment:

My vote is for a Sebo. Not cheap, but by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. I've got a K3 vulcano. It's an airbelt, so no snapping of belts (which happened with my Vax). It uses bags which I prefer to emptying out a cylinder and getting dust everywhere!0

Hi
Theres a shame it broke now - I had my cyclinder dyson 2 weeks ago, with 60 punds cashback at Argos. They do a deal to trade in a dyson on the Dyson website http://www.dyson.co.uk/ £60 for your old hoover no matter what make it is and they are still the same price as the shops. This is my first Dyson and I wish I had bought one years ago!
