Yellow lines - Planning permission or advertised???

Is it required for yellow lines to have planning permission or gazette etc.? Traffic orders etc??? Where can I check that?

Single and double yellow dont require planning permission, however they do require a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), these can be viewed at your local council. They also need to be compliant with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions regulations 2002 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/3113/contents/made

It is normal practice for councils to advertise the fact they are putting down lines etc on lamp posts and in the local papers.

However if its a private estate then all they literally are is just painted lines - they have no meaning or legality at all if on private land.

Thanks, I am dealing with a Double yellow line that I cannot find in the TRO's online any mention of! I can see other items on that street but not this offence, how can I be certain that it is not included in any TRO I have checked through google and London Gazette!

Do you have a PCN? If so just post a copy of it, all pages, on pepipoo forums and they can help with your question and with the appeal generally. Most people win who post on pepipoo and follow their advice:

You can ask the Council for the Traffic Order relating to the DYL at that exact location - you shouldn't have to look for it yourself! It's a public document, tell them what you want to see, either by email or by calling in person at the main Council Offices. They have a statutory duty to provide a copy without delay and either for free or for the cost of a copy (under a pound).

What I would say, if you have a PCN, is NOT to mention the PCN when asking for the Order, and if they ask tell them it's irrelevant why you want to see the order. It's your right, as 'an interested person' to see a public document on request, you don't have to say why. And by not mentioning the PCN you avoid the possibility of them mistaking your request for your appeal. Oh, and also do not ask for it under 'Freedom of Information' as this will cost you a tenner and will delay the reply.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
