Triton shower engineer charge

Hello,

We have a Triton shower. The temperature was fluctuating and then it blew up rather dramatically. I rang Triton and was advised that I needed a Pressure Relief Device (PRD) because the build up of scale had caused it to blow. I ordered a PRD. I also discussed the temperature fluctuation and as the shower was still under guarantee they advised me to book an engineer, which I did.

I replaced the PRD but as an engineer was coming waiting until he arrived to test it. He tested it and the temperature was okay. Triton have said that as this was not something covered by the guarantee they are charging me £70 for the engineer's visit.

I think that when I rang Triton they should have advised me that the build up of scale may well have caused the temperature fluctuation and that I should replace the PRD and see if that solved the problem. If it didn't then I should go back to them. Is that not reasonable?

What do people think, is there anything I can do?

I have complained to Triton but they have not addressed my complaint about the advice they should have given. They have just said that the PRD is not something that is covered by the guarantee. All rather unhelpful really.

I have asked if there is a trade body or Ombudsman I can approach and am waiting for their reply.

Also, if you think that it is my own fault for not regularly cleaning the shower do let me know.
Thanks

I dont understand why you didnt test it, then you could have just cancelled the engineers vist.

Why did you order a pRD before the engineer had been and said it was definitely that.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Our Triton pressure relief device used to need replacing so(too) often ,what sorted it out was to install a water pressurer reducer (really high pressure here) which cured the prd going(and all the washers on the taps are now ok too) Don't think cleaning the shower enough is anything to do with it tbh.

Did you not have a fault finding sheet with your shower -it suggests possibilities for loss of water,pressure/temperature fluctuation etc.

If the prd is not covered by their guarantee I would think that you had no recourse.
