I noticed today that CostCo offer card machines as one of their member services: I think it was 1.5% for 'cardholder present' and 2.5% for not present, there was something else as well but can't remember what.

Thanks all, I also saw another thread where someone recommened using Paypal Virtual Terminal on a 3g laptop etc - I've been through the application process for this but Paypal says that I can't do this as I haven't been trading for long enough :-(. I've also looked at some of the of the card terminal organisations but I at this stage they are still too expensive especially as I've just started.

I guess I'm just going to go for cash and cheques only at this stage.

Thank you for all of your advice.

Careful with cheques! Guarantee cards are obsolete now so very risky.
  • Hi Folks,

Not to repeat advice already given to beanynut's initial enquiry about mobile card terminals but I have a similar query.
Hoping to start a small business but want to operate trial run of my 'travelling shop' with just 3 pop-up sales in different locations. Without going into too much detail I know now I will miss out on majority of sales if I do not have credit/debit card facilities, so any further thoughts on the following please:

    - best deals for a short term loan of card machine and payment processing e.g. 1-3 days?
    - because this is a trial, I don't have a merchant account yet - is this a problem - can I send any payments that result from my trial to an ordinary bank account?
    - any comments on the quality of instant customer service support for short term mobile terminal loans?
(can see myself running my first sale and ending up with tech problem I can't solve....!)

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks - JayJo.
