paypal dispute help please

hello,
i sold an item on May 29th, i waited 14 days ( during which time i sent 2 polite invoices) so on sunday 12th i opened a NPB case. Today i received an email from PayPal saying "instant payment received, you may post the item etc" and one from eBay saying "payment received, case has been closed" this was at 11:16am. At 11:25am ive got another email from Paypal saying that i " might have received a payment that the PayPal account holder did not authorize" and that they are holding the funds until i respond. Just wondering how best to respond as the buyer has never contacted me at any stage and then has a problem with the payment 9 mins after paying? was it done to get the case against them closed maybe? as Ebay is just showing that its been payed for and that i need to dispatch the item?
id be grateful for any advice please :)

Don't dispatch the item until it is cleared in your account. In you paypal account the payment should say completed, if it doesn't it will tell you how long to wait or what action you need to take.

Same happened with me, and unfortunately - it means the NPB case cannot be re-opened and the fees refunded.

Not only that - in my case the payment was rejected by paypal and then, 2 weeks later and out the blue - the buyer paid again. But this time - the payment went through.

I could not locate one of the items, and Ebay and paypal refused to help - so i went to the shops and bought another - paying £10 more than my selling price. I then posted all the items.

Once the item arrived, the buyer claimed 3 of the items were stolen by the postman (it was sent recorded, so they sould not claim i had not sent it).

I have now refunded the money (£60), and have to fight with royal mail.

All because i was not allowed to call time on the sale and stop the buyer repaying when they felt like it. I had already blocked the buyer , after opening the NBP - but it did not prevent him paying for items already won.

I wish i had just refused now - and taken my first negative feedback.

thanks for the replies , i spoke to Ebay and the agent said it seemed a bit odd, i said i was worried that the buyer could open a Item not sent case against me as my ebay acc still says payment was recieved and Paypal said their case could take upto 30 days!. He's put a note on my account just incase the buyer tries to do that, will now attempt the paypal reply

It won't take that long, but don't post until it clears in paypal.

I could still go through. or may be declinded. If declinded - the ebay 'paid' symbol will change to 'refunded'.
