Choosing first supplier
Afternoon folks.
Looking for some guidance on the best way to go about choosing out first gas and electric suppliers. We have no previous bills to go on, so it's been difficult to utilise the comparision sites.
Whats the best thing for us to do?
It will be just my girlfriend and I in a smallish semi-detached. Gas will only be used for the central heating. Electric use would be about average I think.

I don't think it really matters - whatever is cheaper this week will be the most expensive next - despite all the hype, there is not much to choose from between them all really.....0

as you`ve not got any ` history` which ever supplier you choose will likely use the average for your home type , at least for the first 6 months , so they can gain the useage pattern;
as for supplier - look about , see whats on offer and whos likely to put prices up and how much - currently the `bad boy` is scottish power who are front loading the no standing charge tarrifs (lower uses get hit heavier by costing more for the first 700kw/h or whatever it is)0 -
Just in case you don't know, you will automatically be with whatever supplier(s) already supply the house to start off with. If you want to change you'll need to do a switch.0

Do you think the existing suppliers will be now charging their basic (probably highest ) rates regardless of any contract the previous owner may have had with them, and would a new owner be able to switch without penalty as they do not technically have a contract?
How can I search on a comparison site without any usage history?
Is there any site where I can view the unit costs of different companies to make a comparison ?
Trying to help a relative who is a first time buyer and having same issues as OP.0
