CCTV Smart Cars

Noticed quite a few of these running around the area recently. They are white Smart cars, with CCTV on the bonnet and sides - with a great big pole with a camera at the top.

Intrigued but anyone know what these are for - parking enforcements, speeding?

I hope it's not for speeding I went past one a tad too fast this morning. The ones round here are normally near bus stops or bus routes, my dad got caught by one for stopping in a bus stop.

They are for traffic enforcement, parking, stopping, bus lane, prohibited turns etc. They are not speed cameras.

Ah, thanks for that. I thought Google Streetview to at first but those particular roads are already on Google. I think those ones also have Google vinyling on them!

OT a little but today i saw my first DVLA Tax Checker car.. All parked up in a bus lane trying to catch folk..

There are CCTV cars working in Medway. It's a revenue raiser for the Council. They drive past cars that are parked illegally, on yellows, on the pavement and then you get a ticket in the post. It's causing a bit of a furore with innocent people claiming they got tickets - for example stopped for 5 seconds to drop someone off or merely just stopped at normal lights! The other side of the coin is the Smart car parking illegally to film people parking illegally.

There are vigilantes on motorbikes/scooters who follow these Smart cars to warn motorists. Funniest thing are those who film the Smart car drivers - one filming guy got assaulted by a Smart car driver for filming him in a public place...
