Carpetright underlay

Hi
just a quick heads up to anyone thinking of buying a carpet from Carpetright....check what underlay they have ordered for you!
We recently went to purchase a hall and stair carpet from them and after much discussion with the salesperson about which carpet was suitable for the stairs and able to withstand the abuse of two teenage boys and a dog, we chose one we liked.
The salesperson took all of our details and asked if we wanted underlay....we said yes and he added underlay to the invoice....we rather naively thought that he would have ordered an underlay suitable for underneath stair carpet.
The carpet arrived and was fitted....two days later it began lifting off the stairs. We called the fitters back and they explained that we had ordered the 'best' underlay which is very think and not really suitable for stairs as the grippers can't hold it in place with all of the traffic it has. They refitted the carpet using a staple type gun and adhesive and assured us that it was now fine...which it seems to be.
So make sure if you order a carpet off them you, unlike us, ask about what type of underlay is available and choose yourself rather than trusting the salesperson....it will save you money and mither:)
Lesson learnt!!

Better still never order your underlay from carpetright. they have a massive markup on it. buy it off the internet instead. Its exactly the same stuff at vastly reduced cost0

Is complete rubbish, the fitter just didn't fit it correctly. He has covered up his mistake by blaming it on the salesman (who of course wasn't there!) You are now more likely to contact the fitter directly next time you want carpet, and he will probably screw up that fitting too.
2 standout ways I was able to tell
1. He should have used a staple gun in the first place, standard on stairs
2. Carpet fitters will out of preference fit using Cloud 9 or similar underlays which are as thick or thicker than the traditional waffle types, making it harder to fit on the stairs - but not that hard!
I'm not defending Carpetright or their crazy underlay prices though!Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0 -
I think I might just ring my dad next time I need a new carpet.

Don't be too stressed about it - it's fixed now as it should have been in the first place. So nothing to worry about.Unless it is damaged or discontinued - ignore any discount of over 25%0
