Unfair defaults on credit record

I was with British gas, swapped to n power and owed a £100. I agreed to pay it back at £10 p/month. I asked for direct debit they said it would have to be a plastic card. I made them aware of my concerns that i'm not good at money management, they said they had no facility to take direct debits on closed accounts. I received a red final demand 3 weeks later while waiting for the card. i phoned them and they told me to ignore the letter and a new card would be sent. card still did not come, I presumed like most people would?? I had to wait for the card before making payment. New red letter, same phone call. Card comes at 3rd attempt, I immediately paid £10. Then get a text alert from Experian, so log in to find 2 defaults on my British gas record for late payments. I immediately complain to BG and get Experian to look into it. Both replies are short, extremely unfair and bad customer service. Their reply: Through-out the 13 weeks you were waiting for your card you did not contact us to chase up the card or make a payment over the phone, therefore we will not remove the defaults! Well i did, twicw to ask why they was a red letter when I had a payment agreement. Never did they suggest making a payment on the phone. Can they do this??? I have worked hard since leaving my parents to keep a good record and build it up, now they go and spoil it. I complained via the normal complaint option on their website. is they anybody else I can complain to?? Anyone have experience of thios bully boy tactic?? What about consumer credit, would they be interested?

Did you make a note of the peoples names you spoke to and when as it will help prove you have tried to contact them?0

If you can't get them removed you are entitled to ask for a notice of correction to be added to the credit reference file if you feel the information is incomplete or misleading.
