Scottish Power Exit Fee
I'm currently on a capped online tarrif with Scottish Power which will end on 31st August and am looking to find a new capped tarrif to avoid the price rises.
I'm aware that there is an exit fee for leaving. I've tried several times to call and ask what this is but I'm on hold for ages each time and so havne't managed to speak to anyone yet. Can anyone tell me how much this is as there is no info about my existing tarrif on their website.
Thanks in advance.

Finally managed to speak to someone and the exit fee is £50 in total for dual fuel. Not sure if this is of use to anyone else so thought I'd post an update, hope no-one minds.2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0

SP always charge 30 for elec and 20 for gas in all their current tariffs. (well its actually £30.64 elec and £20.42 gas) tbh, id pay the £50 to get out and get another "cheap" fix before the price of them go up with the rises. TBH if you phone sp and bark loud enough, they might switch you to there capped june 2013 tariff without paying the penalty. thats quite a competitive one and is capped at the prices before SP's increase.0

i haven't had my notification letter yet to confirm the above but they did say they would start sending them from the 11th and it seems a realistic email.
I would like to know if we have to wait for the email before starting a move. I would hope the website notification would be sufficient to base a request to leave on. It's quite clear on there.0 -
I have just spoken to Scottish Power and told me that if I wanted to switch now before the increase I would NOT be charged the £50! I'm on OES10.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

This is confusing as when I finally spoke to someone this morning I enquired about the exit fee if I decided to go to another supplier before 31st August when my tariff ends. I was quoted £50 in total including VAT.
I know its worth the risk of paying £50 as I'd be better off in the long run but I wish they'd give a straight answer to everyone one way or the other.
Although, perhaps it depends on which tariff you are on? Just noticed another poster is on OES10, I'm on Capped online until Sept 2011.2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0 -

Perhaps you have to tell them that you are rejecting their price increases.
Edit: You probably won't have an increase though so don't have a valid reason to leave.

No I just called them and am now considering switching to EDFs Fixed S@ver V2
I'm on OES10 and have just been notified of a rise, I went round the switch websites yesterday looking for deals particular fixed deals and the EDF deal came out as the best.
But.....
Looking at the unit price it was about the same as SP new prices and had a £150ish standing charge.
So I rang SP and rather than hold asked them to call back which they did and a helpful operator passed me to their sales team and I discussed what packages SP had. They have a scheme called platinum which is fixed prices to 2014 and is slightly more than their new prices. However no standing charge and there is a boiler maintenance/repair thrown in.
So I went for it.0 -
I called them today too, and I must say the information received was as clear as mud!
From the quote in post #4, (I got the email today) I assumed they were waiving the early exit fee if you switched supplier. It doesn't say anything about transferring to another SP tariff, hence why I called them.
Customer Services informed me that they never charge an early exit fee for transferring tariffs (which is contrary to the terms of the product )
After double checking she then informed me I would be charged an early exit fee if I switched supplier (which seem contrary to the above email quote).
I asked about the waiver in the email, and that's when it got really confusing. I think what she was trying to say was that an early exit fee is not a cancellation fee. She said the cancellation fee would be a fee for cancelling the supply contract (I don't know of any tariff that has one of these - perhaps a business tariff?); the early exit fee was something different she said, and informed me it would be charged if I switched supplier.
Confused, I asked how much a cancellation fee would be and she said £51.06. I then asked how much the early exit fee was and she said that too was £51.06
I was totally confused, and I think she was too! Anyway, as I was planning to probably just transfer to another tariff now she clearly had said I would not incur an early exit fee for that, I left it at that.
But I recommend anyone planning to do anything calls to double check. I am not convinced she was right about not charging the early exit fee for tariff transfers (she seemed unsure, but that's what she told me and I have her name and date/time of the call regarding my account), and if you plan to switch supplier, you really need to get to the bottom of whether there is a difference between a "cancellation fee for your product" and an early exit fee."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
