I buy my meat from a butcher and I have never paid over the odds for lamb, we thought it was strange in NZ where we hardley saw lamb on any menus, apparantly they export it all.

And 'over the odds' would be how much..?
  • If you can get it go for texel meat, certainly the best IMHO. If you like a bit of fat then Hampshire Downs.
Most people overlook opportunity as it comes dressed in overalls, and looks like hard work.

So kind, lil_me. Perhaps others would care to check this link out if they don't know what 'lamb' means...

Personally, I'd prefer a bit of 'Price Downs', which is what this thread is supposed to be about.
  • Lamb is currently £2.35 pKG/DWT.

    Isn't price relative to quality?

I would check the local farm shops and butchers for prices on lamb, it sometimes is a little more but the quality is outstanding in my local one. The steak I bought today is so different from supermarket steak, the colour, the texture, it's all so fresh, only sad part is I met the cow most of it came from :( but I can get over that bit. 2 large sirloins, 3lb stewing steak (granted most of it was from topside or rump as he'd ran out of the usual) 2lb mince, 8 links of lovely chunky Cumberland sausage and 16 slices of bacon came to just under £15. Quality is more important to me, but I do believe in paying a fair price.

Texel is one I haven't tried yet but is mean't to be very nice.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

Please keep to the topic everyone. Why are we paying through the nose for this product, no matter WHERE we buy it?
