Why can I buy low cost flea treatment for my cat?

Options
Hi,

I used to get Frontline from the vet; but it very is expensive. Where can I get this or other flea treatment like this for much less for my cat?

If you have web links to companies this would be an extra help. Thanks everyone.

Do you have a Costco near you? They sell Frontline in there a lot cheaper than the vet and cheaper than I could find online.

You have to be a member or perhaps find someone who is and get them to get it for you.

Just to let you know that they will ask for the name of the pet and it has to be signed for and they tell you that you can only buy so many in a set period of time, but it is no problem. Just so your friend is aware.

Just a thought - I have bought Frontline from both Pets at Home and also various sites online. However, I had a conversation with my vet last week and it came up that apparently these versions of it that you can buy in retail outlets (and I guess this includes Costco) aren't actually as strong as the ones you get from your vet. This may explain the people who say that fleas in their area are immune to Frontline...

I get Stronghold from the vet for £7 a month, which sounds expensive but bear in mind that covers fleas, most worms AND ear mites. If your vet will write you a repeat prescription you can order Stronghold online from sites such as VetUK. That goes with any veterinary prescription medicine - ask for the script to give the generic name to be used rather than the trade name as you have the option of being supplied the cheaper version. It's the same as buying ibuprofen for 16p rather than Nurofen for £££££. There may well be a generic Frontline (drug name fipronil) if you Google: be sure to get the right strength based on the weight of your pet.

I'm sorry but I don't buy that line.

The packaging and everything else is exactly the same as the one from the vet it just does not have their mark up on it.

There is a vet specific variant of Frontline, which is Frontline Combo, which contains fipronil 50 mg, (S)-methoprene 60 mg. The one you can buy without a prescription is Frontline, which only contains fipronil 50mg.

I've no idea which Costco is selling, but I guess it's the ordinary Frontline *shrugs*

Thanks for the info, it is appreciated.

Just googled it and Frontline kills fleas and ticks. Frontline Combo does this and also has an insect growth inhibitor so kills/stops eggs as well.

I have just checked my box and the one from Costco is Frontline.

From what I can see you can get the Combo one cheaper than the vet online but you need to ask a vet for a prescription in order to get it.

The ordinary Frontline seems to work for me so I think I will stick with it for the time being.

    Thanks
