WTC - money in bank less than a week after claiming!

I know that a lot of people have had to wait stupid amounts of time and fill in shed loads of paperwork, but we're actually in the opposite position, and the reason I'm posting is that I'm rather surprised and wondering if I'm the only one who's experienced this.
OH just started a new job on 31.05 and we signed off JSA.
Our advisor gave us a phone number where they sort out your back to work bonus, council tax benefit, housing benefit and working tax credits (if you want them too).
Well my OH phoned them last Monday or Tuesday and today there is a WTC payment in his account.
I'm actually flabbergasted, as we've not yet received any paperwork from tax credits, and OH hasn't had to fill in any forms, just make that call.
Also I'm even more surprised, as the other day we received a letter from the HB & CTB people saying our benefit would be suspended till we filled in a new claim. On phoning them they agreed that actually we should be getting the 4 week run on (so I believe they are now processing that, and as we get the evidence they need they will process our new claim as OH is working), So from that call OH made this hadn't been sorted properly.
Anyway, I really was just wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience, as I thought WTC is normally paid every 4 weeks, so I have no idea what period this amount is supposed to cover and how much we are even meant to get as we don't have any paperwork yet. I don't dare touch it till we do.

I got mine in my bank less a week after I sent in my renewal. I get mine weekly. Was shocked as I thought it would take ages! got the paperwork through a few weeks later.0

I wasn't aware that you could make a new claim for working tax credits over the phone...do you have children and already had a claim in for child tax credits? x0

I put my claim in for the child tax credits a few weeks ago when the forms came out, received a payment today even though they haven't sent out the finalised award yet.
It is stupid that they make payments to people before you can even confirm whether the payment is correct or not.0 -

Can someone clarify if this is correct...that you can claim tax credits over the phone now? x0 -

I am not sure if you can make an entirely new claim over the phone, but I know you can make any changes or updates to an existing claim.
Just to clarify, I am only talking about child tax credits. I don't know how the other tax credits operate that the OP was talking about.0 -
Hi everyone.
To clarify this is a brand new claim for WTC and we have no kids.
The number we were given by our JC advisor is not a national call line, it is an office within our county. I don't know if they have a specific name/title, as I said, they literally sort everything out after you sign off. I had never heard of this in the past, so I don't know when they started giving out this number/doing it that way but it's a darn site easier! We haven't had any paperwork as yet, and haven't had to fill in any forms. We did our signing off @ the JC and have received all our paperwork from them except OH's P45.
Also I should have pointed out we expected WTC to be about £22 a week and the payment we received was £101. Also OH doesn't recall asking for weekly payment so we expected it to come in 4 weeks.0 -
I made my claim for CTC and subsequently WTC on the phone without having to fill in any forms at all. The CTC money came within about a fortnight (although there were about four bank holidays in between) and then when I made the WTC claim (as I realised I was working enough hours) it took about a week to get the first payment. As it was backdated to when I started to be eligible I got two payments in two days which was quite nice0
