Hello all!
After noticing that the floor/plinth has swollen up in the kitchen, I think it is time for a new kitchen. But I would like a bit of guidance. I have a U-Shaped kitchen which is rectangular with measurements of 3220m by 1920mm (its small
)
1. Is it me or is it impossible to buy 1200mm corner base units, the only place ive seen them is Ikea? I think i need the 1200mm unit to put a drawer unit at the corner.
2. If i do go for Ikea units, how is quality compared to, for instance B & Q? I had a look at the kitchens at B & Q, the only difference i can see is the backboard (the IT range has a thin backboard, whilst the Cooke & Lewis range has a thicker backboard) All i know is that both Ikea and B & Q uses 18mm chipwood.
3. Do white gloss units stand the test of time? (scratches, yellowing etc)
4. I have chipboard flooring (with polystyrene underneath the chipboard). I want to tile my floor with ceramic tiles, but my floor is extremely soggy (from the washing machine feed area). After replacing the chipboard flooring, it would be inevitable to make it level with the non-effect parts, what can i use to level it out? And are there any precautions/tips for laying tiles on chipboard flooring?
5. Any general tips for refitting a kitchen?
Thanks for reading.

A 1200mm corner unit is not much different from a normal two door 1200mm but with only one door and a corner ‘filler’.
Wickes for example only have a 1000mm corner but I wanted 1200mm to get the 600mm door width. You can either make your own filler or use part of the spare door to colour match. As long as all your other corners match it looks fine.
Can’t help you with the other items though.0 -

Most corner units tend to be 100cm units with a 45, 50 or 60cm with a blind corner door and a corner post supplied. Depending on which door you go for, the unit is positioned 10-25cm from the back wall to create a void offering a planning dimension of 110-125 cm. Ideally you want the 60cm door for best access.
THe inside of the cupboard can be configured with several different types of internals.
The other corner alternative is a carousel with a 80 * 80 or 90 * 90 planning dimension.
Hope this makes sense. PM me is not.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
IKEA sell 1200mm kitchen units or have 2 x 600mm units next to each other?0

I have just installed an Ikea kitchen and am very pleased with the quality. We went for one of the more expensive ones but the only difference is the quality of the doors as the carcass's are all the same.0
