If it's being used by crims they wouldn't need to insure, it would show as insured on the database.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

It may or may not, it could be a crim using it for what ever purpose, it could also be a unsuspecting person who bought the car on good faith knowing nothing about it being a clone.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

cuz driver of cloned car was sat outside the bank with a balaclava on with a sawn off shotgun. The gun was no surprise as he's a keen hunter but a balaclava in June? it's not gone that chilly this weekend...0 -

Even so if the insurers shared info they would probably see 2 registered keepers as I suspect both would be claiming that title on the insurance
The law doesn't make any distinction between temporary insurance and other insurance; it's just insurance cover under the Road Traffic Acts. The very fact that you can buy insurance on a car already insured by someone else (for a test drive, for example) tells me that it's possible.
There wouldn't be 2 keepers.
I usually read the disclaimers from insurers very carefully and can't recall any ever saying that there must be no other policy in existance.
There are lots of forum posts on the internet broadly saying you can't have two policies, but none give any legislation or policy working to back up their view.
As long as you are honest with the insurer and it's not excluded by their terms, why should it not be possible?
Obviously only one insurance policy would pay out if an accident occurred, depending on who was driving. Attempting to claim from two insurers would be fraud. In the case of fire, theft, or unattended damage, then whoever is the legal owner is the one who has suffered the loss so theirs should be the policy that the claim is made on.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Actually cloning a private plate could be a good idea as in theory they can move between cars. It would work if your only goal is to avoid detection by speed cameras and the like, rather than trying to disguise a stolen car.
Keep the real plates in the boot then imagine you just got pulled and the copper notices the VIN doesn't match up.
"Oh, it's a private plate, I've only just put it on, the DVLA mustn't've updated the records yet"
"Oh, no problem, I'll get it sorted with the DVLA. I've got the original plates in the boot I'll just put those back on until then?"
I would suggest that cloning a private plate is not a good idea. It is easier to spot than a standard seven character registration.
If you got pulled over by the police, one of the first things they would do is check that the number plates and the registration number on the tax disc match.
The vehicle record is generally updated straight away by DVLA. If the police are in any doubt as to the legal status of the car, you and the car won't be allowed to go anywhere until the matter is cleared up.0
