MASSIVE consumption - meter issues!?

***UPDATE***
Something is DEFINITELY up!
We've just figured out that the meter labelled as our flat (i.e. the one we're paying for) isn't reading our electric. Our electric is actually being recorded by a different meter (one labelled as a different flat)!!!
So.... we're now in a quandry as to how this gets sorted.
It's a very suspicious amount being used so we feel inclined to contact the police first off.
We're also going to contact Scottish Power and see what they say/suggest.
Will be starting a new thread given the changing circumstances. I'll post the link to the new thread below!
Then what did you mean by this?Yes they have the meter details correct.
Switched meters is fairly common in blocks of flats - probably been like that since construction/conversion. Why do you feel the police should be involved?
As stated earlier IMO 9,000kWh pa in an all electric 2 bed flat is below average and you might find you are paying more when it is sorted out.
Note:
9,000kWh should cost around £1,000. The average household bill - with much cheaper gas - is around £1,300.0 -
Should be fairly straightforward to contact scottish power and have them check/trace what each meter serves in your property.... should be able to get to the bottom of which meter is connected to whom and if its down to poor labelling/inept wiring or if anything remotely sinister is actually going on.
Sounds like the meter labelled as yours is switched with someone elses who has the electric heating going full pelt..... seen anyone in your building wandering round in T-shirts during the cold snap?0 -

We thought we'd query it with the police because, as daft as it sounds, the person in there could be dead! No answer on door, mailbox looks pretty full and we turned the electric off at the main isolator and they haven't gone down to turn it back on. All a bit odd that's all.
Hey Graeme, thanks for that mate. I phone Scottish Power this morning and they've asked me to e-mail them some details. Am going to do that now and see what they say. Will definitely get back to you though if you're a man in the knowLoL
Thanks again all!0
