I went into my local Sainsburys yesterday and bought a Sony tv, When we got home, the tv wasnt the one i thought it was ( it was supposed to have an hd tuner in it), anyway we (hubby and i) popped back into Sainsburys today to check the model and price, and the SEL stated it was a Sony KDL32CX523 full hd tv with hd tuner £399, the tv we got was the Sony KDL32CX520 full hd (no hd tuner)
When i queried it with a team leader he took the SEL off and went to find the tv from out the back.
He came back with the correct model and did a price scan which came up at £449.
I told him that i should be able to return the tv we were given yesterday and be given the correct tv (model advertised at £399) to which he said no, it doesnt work like that but i can bring tv back and get my money back.
When he removed the label off the shelf there was another one underneath it with the corrent details.
He threw the other label in the bin.
Have i got it wrong or have i just been done?
I have known Sainsbury's to honor a price on a previous occaision
(bought saucepan's advertised at £40 but went throught till at £80 and they had to reduce them)
Does it make a difference as its a tv? Would they have had the right to refuse to sell it to me at £399?

It is not clear how you ended up with the wrong tv - did you take the tv to the counter, or ask for one? What is the description on your receipt, and on the tv packaging?Gone ... or have I?0

What do you define as "HD Tuner" As i have never heard of such a thing.
I googled the tv you got comes with:
SONY Bravia KDL-32CX520 32" Full HD LCD TV - Black

FreeView HD
To follow up John Lewis is doing the Freeview HD for £429 With a 5 Year Guarantee although they seem to be breaking the law on WEEE recycling which they offer for £9 when it should be Free.
Also Richer Sounds is offering the TV for £417 with a 5 year Guarentee Link (Or £379 without)0 -

I assume the OP means built in HD freeview, pretty common now in new TVs.
Yes thats correct!
Sorry for the confusion, here goes lol
I saw the sony 32CX523 model advertised on the shelf at £399, told the lady i'd like to buy one, (the assistants have to get the stock from out the back) she came back with a sony tv in a trolly (that i thought was the cx523 model), The box only shows 32/52
Hubby took tv to the car after i'd paid for it and waited in the car til i had finished my shopping.
Got home, hubby started to set tv up while i was putting the shopping away, when i looked on the box it didnt show the freeview hd logo.
I then had a nose around on the net to find there are 2 models
cx520 full hd 1080
and
CX523 full hd 1080 + freeview HD
we were given the non freeview HD model.
When i queried it in store today the team leader said "oh its got the wrong label" and took the label off the shelf but underneath was another label with the correct model number (520) at £399

Are you sure it only said 32/52? I have several Sony products and all have been easily identified from their packaging.Gone ... or have I?0

Just double checked the box
it shows CX52/32 in big writing on the bottom LH side (front of box) underneath pic of a TV screen
I think they must use the same box for both models as when the assistant brought out the second tv today it shows excatly the same on the box.
I can understand how the confusion has come about if the boxes are the same.
I was just wondering really if i was entitled to buy the TV that was being advertised on the shelf as sony kdl32CX523 freeview HD @ £399
when the label was actually wrong the correct price is apparently £449 ( as we found out when the lad scanned the new box today)My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0 -
I think this is a tricky one, because you asked for a certain item and agreed to pay the offered price, thereby completing the contract. However, when you got it home you discovered it was not the item you asked for and made an offer to purchase. On that basis, it is possible that it could be argued that they are contractually obliged to give the television that you thought you had bought for the price you paid. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Thanks you've worded better than i did.
Yes i thought i had bought the Freeview HD model for £399 (price and model shown on display), when we got home we had infact been sold the non Freeview HD model for £399.My beloved dog Molly27/05/1997-01/04/2008RIP my wonderful stepdad - miss you loads:Axxxxxxxxx:Aour new editionsSenna :male: and Dali :female: both JRT0
