Travel Insurance when you have elderly parents

Hi
Does anybody know of any insurance companies that will give you travel insuurance when you have elderly parents with pre existing medical conditions. We have one that has just has chemotherapy, and is ok at the moment ( but how long that will continue we dont know) and another one that is in hospital with various complaints, but is waiting to go into a nursing home. I have looked at a couple but they say if there is a pre existing condition on some one who is not travelling with you, but you have to cancel your trip or curtail it you are not covered.
We are hoping to get away in Sept but really need the insurance just in case.
Thanks

This has recently been enquired about by another poster. They phoned all the specialist Travel Insurers that cover pre existing medical conditions, but they would not provide cover in a circumstance such as yours. They said that the risk was too high i.e. a good chance of needing to cancel a holiday.
Think that this risk my have to be yours and therefore you will need to consider the holiday booking you make. e.g see if you arrange a booking that offers some flexibility or a decent cancellation refund policy/The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
If you can do it then try to go with a company that has some sort of "cancellation plan".
We are going on holiday with Warners this year.
They do a cancellation plan for £6 per person.
This does not mean we can get our money back, but it does allow us to transfer the booking to a different date.
Like you I have lots of elderly relatives.
I had a close call in May when my Nan died. Luckily the funeral was after my holiday, but it was very close.
Warners might not be your thing, but it's just a suggestion to look for companies that offer the transfer facility.0 -
Thank you all very much for your help, looks like it will be a risk.:T0

Maybe think about doing a UK holiday touring this year? We did a week in Scotland last year because my Mother was frail. We could always find a B&B via tourist information places on a day to day basis wherever we ended up that day. Just as well as she was taken to hospital! We got to her the next day!
Thing is now she's as strong as an ox and I've had a heart attack in between then and now!0 -
There was a piece on Dont get Done get Dom recently where a woman had a Barclays Bank Account, where she got free travel insurance etc..... Her father had been ill for some time, and when she was due to travel his condition worsened..... She tried to claim off their insurance but waas denied as she didnt advise his il-being.
Hope you get something sorted....Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -
My wife and I, both in our 70's, with numerous medical conditions, ie heart attack, etc were quoted a premium of £1400 with Saga who are supposed to look after us old folk, for a 27 day holiday in America. We then heard of richardtaylor@gillnoble.co.uk who are consultants for MIA online Limited. We paid £338.00 to cover all our existing conditions including money accidents and delays etc. We have just returned from a lovely holiday in Pennsylvania knowing we were fully covered with no excesses to worry about. There re worth a try.0

Another suggestion is World First. I always use them as I have a medical condition, and I know that they will cover people up to 100 years young.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0
