I stopped smoking about 5 years ago having enjoyed the pleasure since I was 14, how will this affect my annuity due at the year end?

There are still providers that will issue revised terms on that basis.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Why not start smoking again ? Temporarily.
For life assurance, the question is whether you have smoked tobacco products in the last 12 months. They don't tend to ask how much or how often.0 -

So would it be advantageous to either start smoking again, or to say that I smoke?0

Watch out, they do sometimes check (mainly by contacting your GP, but they may have other avenues). Lying to receive a higher annuity probably counts as some sort of fraud, and would be a bad thing to get convicted of...0

It is a matter of extreme irony to me, that I can't get an enhanced annuity, despite being a lifelong confirmed 20-a-day man. But I'm talking panatellas. Not cigarettes. Far worse, and yet enhanced annuities only apply to cigarette smokers!0

Biscuits or cigars?:D0 -
roll ups and cigars still qualify for enhanced terms. However, they are less damaging than manufactured cigarettes so you have to smoke more of them to qualify.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). As well, the cars are all passing me, bright lights are flashing me.
