itunes and mp3 players

Options
I want to use iTunes to store all my music but i don't seem to be able to put the music onto my Samsung mp3. Is iTunes only for apple products. I'm sure I read on here somewhere that there was a way of converting the files.

iTunes stores music files as .m4a, if I'm not mistaken - look in your iTunes folder to verify this, then google for "m4a mp3 conversion" or similar search terms.

can you buy music from winamp or do you buy from Amazon and then play through win amp. I thought iTunes would be easier as it does everything. However it is not as straightforward as I thought.

You can use iTunes to organise your music, but you'll have to drag n drop the files to your mp3 player.

Your files may be in m4a format, not sure if you're Samsung player will recognise these - you can use iTunes to convert to mp3.

What mp3 player do you have?

Not as far as i know you cant.Just buy them elsewhere in mp3 and then drop them onto your mp3 player. You will just end up faffing around far to much if your using Itunes without an ipod imo.

It's a bad idea using itunes as you can only download in AAC format and that means converting to MP3. This has 2 obvious snags converting takes time and converting will degrade the sound quality. (and itunes is a terrible bit of software)

What I do is download MP3s from somewhere else, store the albums in My Music and use the built-in Windows Media Player to organise and Sync to my MP3 player. No third party software required.

Forget iTunes - just drag & drop your mp3 files. If you have to convert aac to mp3 you will lose a bit in sound quality.

If you're still looking to convert your mp4 files to mp3, it's very simple to do it using iTunes. I did it on mine ages ago and now it automatically converts any non-mp3 file that I drag into my library, or I can click the 'advanced' tab and choose the 'convert to mp3' option.

If you want to do it (it looks a bit different for each version of iTunes but the process is the same):

    1. Open iTunes to the default page (so you can see the menu bar at the top).
    2. Edit > Preferences.
    3. Click on the 'advanced' tab in the popup box.
    4. Look for a box called 'import settings'
    5. Change the 'import using' option to 'MP3 Encoder'

That's the important bit done. Now, if it's working right, whenever you drag a non-mp4 file into the iTunes window, it should automatically convert the file for you. I find mine in my default music folder. Or highlight the mp4 file that you have downloaded, then select the advanced tab at the top. You should then be able to choose the 'convert to mp3' option. Maybe this option works even without the five steps I've just mentioned but I'm not an expert so I don't know.
