They might well use the definition that if you are still in their database, then you are an existing customer, just one that is not currently paying for a subscription.
You might ask why have they sent these to previous customers if they cannot be used by them? Well, last year screenselect (now part of LoveFilm) sent vouchers which people that had stopped paying for their accounts could use to get three months free. I wonder if they have sent them to catch people out this year, thinking they will get three months free like last year, when in fact they will end up paying.
Note also they use thew word exclusive ... as in exclusive gift code. It is obviously not exclusive in the sense that you are the only person to get the code, since many people have been sent the same code. Thus it may be exclusive in the sense that you cannot use it with any other offers (present or past). So if you have an account, then you are excluded from using it.0 -
Ive got an email from Lovefilm which says that the £12.99 charged is incorrect if you are not an existing customer.
Rest assured if I apply and get charged Ill throw the email down their throats.0 -
It's usually A Good Idea to run an MSE chat forum search for any subject before, er, publicising that subject.
A simple search of the wordLOVEFILM
might've saved the OP some trouble.
It'll certainly save anyone else thinking of following up on this thread. Posts about Lovefilm on MSE now exceed 100 and may well be approaching 200. They're not that hard to find.
PS: Hopefully nobody's going to come on here tomorrow banging on about free keyrings, either. . .

Lovefilm are anything but.
The chances that their CS would actually understand any of that, let alone honour it, are probably on a par with me leading the first manned mission to Mars.
Nah, Edna. The chances ain't on a par.
You'll already be on Mars before Lovefilm CS acts the way it should do.

Perhaps they've been putting the company's name into the search box as Lovefilth instead?

The charge has now been removed. Obviously if I cancel before the three months I wont be charged.0

Just to confirm what scousmanblue said above - I got the voucher in the post last month but stopped signing up just before the end as it said rental £0 - activation charge £12.99
- didn't trust them, Just tried again and this time the activation charge was showing as £0.00 and the account shows as
next payment due 'march 19th 2007'

It might help, and save on duplicate questions, if this thread was inter-linked to the principal Lovefilms thread, which now features a post from Martin this morning:
