Hi
I wonder if any moneysavers can point me in the right direction here?
I've recently got a new PC with Outlook 2010 and not quite sure if something's changed in the way it treats links.
For example, somebody has sent me a URL for an mp3 in an email which ends as a .mp3 but if I right click I don't get the "Save Target As" option as I would have used before just "Select, Open or Copy Hyperlink". Opening the file just brings it up in the mini Quicktime player.
All I want to be able to do is download the mp3 to the PC for playing later rather than stream it. I have tried forwarding the message to other web email addressess but although I can then get 'Save Target As' it then only tries to save an html page rather than the mp3.
Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks

A URL is a link to a Webpage usually , it is not an attachment including a mp3 file, therefore that is your option Select, Open or Copy Hyperlink, the "target" is the URL hence those options. You will need open the link first, however is the someone trust worthy? before you open it4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . It looks as though the mp3 is not embedded as an attachment -- which is fine; you have been sent a url - from within you would need to download i suspect. the file could either play from within (sometimes ) a browser session or download (save as ) from there.A new abacus

Not the solution to the outlook problem but as a workaround, You could try copying the URL to the mp3 file and pasting it into your browser. then delete the mp3filename off the end and press go on the browser.
For example if the full URL is http://www/foo/bar/this.mp3 then trim that to http://www/foo/bar/ in your browser.
This should bring up the page holding this.mp3 which you can right click on.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes, the mail is trustworthy and points to a Dropbox url. Opening the link currently plays the mp3 in an embedded Quick Time player in IE but offers no option for actually downloading the file. I've tried the URL workaround Dave and unfortunately that gives a 404 error which I guess is just because of the way Dropbox host the files?0 -
whats the file if you dont mind? If its in a dropbox do you not need to log into that dropbox to access it?one of the famous 50

I have a dropbox account with a couple of shared folders but the sender of this isn't related to those.
It's been sent out to a number of people on an email list who won't all have dropbox so assumed it was available to anyone?
EDIT!
And now I've discovered if I paste the link in here I can get at it! How weird, anyway it worked!!0 -

Thats probably because of how the email was sent or how you were viewing it then.
