Process for lead generation

Could anyone shed any light on the preferred way of dealing with payment for this?

I have been asked if I am in a position to generate leads for a given service/product. I was thinking about charging a set fee depending on the type of information passed through to the salesperson, although I suspect they will only want to pay for a "sale" opposed to a "hot lead". My worry here being how would I know if the sale went through as per enquiry.

Thanks for reading!

hmm... thats an interesting one! I see your dilemma.
I would say that you charge per "list" of say for arguements 100 leads - you cannot be responsible for a crap sales person, so you send a good lead, if they can't close the deal, then that isn't your fault. On the other side, you "could" sell them a list of crap, with no actual realistic leads...
The only suggestion, is proof in the pudding - as you say, a comission on the ones that led to sales, so you wont send them crap leads, however, you rely on them again to close the deal, and have to trust and set up some sort of system to monitor your leads and thus sales, so that you get paid.
Sorry I haven't helped, but will watch / read with interest on this one! Im a thinkin - but its late and I had brandy!
Someone in the know with experience will pop in soon Im sure

    hi jexy,
thanks for your reply. I think you are right: If i charge a fee for providing information that has ticked the criteria they ask for - the rest is up to them!

P.S im having a whisky to wind down too!

I have never paid for a lead yet, I get all mine through word of mouth referrals.

I must admit that I will never buy leads either and haven't come across a business yet that will.

if a business has a scheme that pays people to generate leads, then IF they are already a successful and honest company they will give you access to their sales reports to link your leads to sales.

it jsut seems weird that someone would ask the OP to generatee leads but not provide all the answers to how OP would get paid or how relaiable their lead -> sales works.

are you sure that this is a business offering you the 'job' and not some lazy sales man trying to con 'joe public' into doing his work. coz those lazy sales people are usually the ones that make promises but never deliver, or lie about sales saying the lead did not result in a sale even if it did.

be careful. something smells fishy. lets just hope the business is a fish mongers and its all legitimate and all im smelling is the success of you generating leads of people wanting to buy fish. lol

    -side note-
another option is that if it is phone based, check if you have call forwarding on your phone and pretty much get 98% of the sales speach done and have it so you just call forward the lead onto the sales person to take payment.

they will love you as their sales staff arnt on phone talking for 20 minutes. just 3 minutes to take payment details.

and this way you can guarantee the sales guy has received the lead and have more proof that it lead to a sale.

    i still smell fish though
