If you could gain good title without settling the finance then why would HPi exist and why would anybody pay the finance if they could simply "sell" it to a mate and get good title.
Because HPI covers far more than just finance.
As to "sell" it to a mate, the "mate" wouldn't get ownership if they knew or suspected that there was outstanding finance on the car.
The consumer credit act is very specific and states on more than one occasion that the buyer must purchase the vehicle in good faith.
Also the relevant part of the act (section 27) nor trading standards make any mention of it only applying to sales from a business or dealership.0 -

Have got a setlement figure etc so now the ins and outs i assume HPI check would be done and am happy to settle with the finance company as they are not taking our compliant seriously (ie SEE thread HELP SOS):money:
