When I go into the drive I see two folders:

    1. Recovery - when I go into it, I get a warning from HP (the lappy maker) against altering the contents, which seems reasonable enough for a recovery drive.

what's in the Recovery folder? right click on it and go to properties and it'll show how many files and how much space is taken.

turn off system restore on that drive.

how big is the partition, recovery partitions are often small, in this case being nearly full is not an issue apart from the low disk space notification

The only cleaning option on that drive is the recycle bin. The diallog box for that drive does not contain the "More Options" window where I can select deleting the old restore points.

It shows what I said in my post #4, gypsy. The Recovery folder will not let me do anything to it. It appears well protected. I have no way of knowing what goes into it.

WinDirStat is a READ-ONLY program, and is perfectly safe to use. You can't 'get it wrong'

Install, run, and read the results.

Done. The list for Recovery D is all system files, HP files etc. Certainly nothing that I have stored myself. Oh well/.

No, no message yet - I was into "Computer" for other reasons and the status bar of driive D jumped at me and I worried.
