Strange BT box

Hi,
Someone from BT Openreach is coming to install a new line for me on Wednesday, so this isn't a huge problem, but I was wondering what this box is? I haven't seen anything like it before... I don't have a master socket, but I found this in the corner of my living room and wondered if it would present any problems for installing broadband etc.?

Thanks! :D

    It's a connection box of some sort,I think it's so a couple of lines can be connected but I've never seen that type before.Nor is it listed here;

    Hmm... the plot thickens! I'm not sure why there would have been two lines in this place, considering it's only a 1-bedroom flat, but I suppose someone could have run a business from here once... Very odd :p

    Its an old style phone connection box, older phones were wired directly to them and you couldnt unplug them like we can these days.
    Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Ah, the memories. I don't think BT have used that particular logo for over 20 years so that certainly dates it as "old".
    Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

    can you remember the ones which were about 30cm x 10cm and had a battery in them?

    OR will either replace it or run a new line in, depending on what is already there. Either way, you will have a modern NTE5.
    If there is already a line in place, did you not just ask for a reconnection?

    Maybe that's what they're doing... I think they just called it a 'new line', because there wasn't a dialtone, or something.

    if no dialtone it will be classed as a new install. They will also need to upgrade the wiring.

  • Just a little update - things have got weirder! (But in a good way...)

    About half an hour ago, out of mere boredom I decided to pick up the phone I'd connected to the socket in the hallway... and lo and behold, there was a dialtone! o_O;; I did the 17070 thing to get the number, and it worked, and I seem to be able to dial out and receive calls... The thing is, it wasn't supposed to be connected until Wednesday and I was under the impression that they had to send someone out to connect it. What's going on? :think:

    It's not always necessary to reconnect inside the property, they simply ask you to be in on that day in case access is require. If there is an existing line then they can just reconnect at the street cab or exchange.
