NatWest Bank - Gone Downhill!

After 33 years of being with this Bank, this IS the first time Ive had reason to condemn them in any shape or form!

My Wife and I on Wednesday visited a local branch to discuss a telephone savings account, as today we sold our house! So we needed an account in preparation. I asked on Wednesday for a joint account, the letter arrived yesterday with only my name on it. Today should have been a day to celebrate, but to be told that they need signatures now before they can activate the New Account now is just unbelievable. Especially as the one opened on Wednesday was activated!

They have now lost my main custom for savings, this Bank needs to look at itself and get back on track instead of driving people away!

  • I would think that the letter with one name only - was standard, one to you and one to your wife - as you would both have different security codes to access the account on the telephone?

Signatures for an account is understandable. I suppose you opened an account at branch, that is not actually run at branch - this may be one of the reasons. 2 days is not a lot of notice for telephone or online type of accounts that require set-up security.

But - as you have sold your house and a lot of money is being deposited to the account, you need to be sure you can actually get the money later, so security , money laundering regs and sig's maybe better now than later.

I would think a lot of this is standard for a lot of banks. Worth checking with them to compare.

No I have been on the phone most of the afternoon! It was the Banks error, and it was done as a single account.
  • Their error on that part then - some of the other things you mention though still would apply at other banks

Yes agreed, but the new account had been activated, but without my Wife on there! We already have a joint account. This account is also via telephone!

EVven my branch got involved, and they said they had sorted it out, which proved not to be the case
