Joint Banking - help

Hi,
I have recently gotten married to a US citizen. She is doing her PhD in London and before we married had a Natwest Basic Bank Account. I have an Alliance and Leicester Premier Direct Current Account. I rang them to request the forms to change the account into a joint account; they arrived, we filled them out. We got copies of the correct information (passport and old bank statement) authenticated at our local a&l branch, and sent it all off. One week later, I recieved a letter from them saying that they need more information in the form of a utlities bill to "counteract the growing problem of identity thrft" Unfortunately we live in postgraduate student halls, and our utilities are included in our rent. I spoke to customer services, who were of little help saying that if we didn't have an item on their list, they could not help. I have written a letter to customer services suggesting that our only option is to send them a letter from the halls warden stating that we live where we live and are who we say we are! I asked them to contact me by letter or by phone.
However, two weeks later, I have not recieved a reply in any form.
Does anybody have any suggestions on where to go next? I am loathe with the good interest rate to move acc.
Many Thanks,
Andrew

Do you both now pay council tax? ... If so, can you send them your recent CT Bill?0
-
Living in halls, we do not have to pay council tax:beer:0

Yeah, I know students don't pay CT. I must have mis-read your original post as I thought you had said you had graduated i.e. no longer students.
Just read it again anyway
Hmmm, driving licence? Benefits letter? Electoral Roll?
Sorry, can't be of much more help.0 -
My wife is the student! I work and normally keep a balance of 2500 quid. So I hoped they would have responded by now, or lose my business!:mad:0

Only problem is that she is now in the writing up stage of the PhD and the university do not count her as a student! Weird, I know!0
