I'd swap smoothie for oj and a banana - still 2 portions for fruit for much less £

Swap baked beans for scrambled egg once or twice a month too.

Tuna seems expensive -B&M bargains and Home Bargains often have good deals on tuna so i stock up then - usually works out about 40p a can. Good alternatives are sardines too - packed with calcium and yummy!

HM soup is tatier, healthier and cheaper than tinned.

I'd only makes things like tom and pepper stew if I got a glut of cheap veg in the market as peppers are a rip off from the supers - same with stuff aubergine. Think about season veg based dishes instead.

    Chicken thighs instead of breast.

I made Nigella's breakfast bars as a regular bf snack - quick to make and packed with calories and nutritous stuff like oats and seeds and can be eaten with one hand!

  • Tesco's online site goes weird on mushrooms in my experience. If I put weight they deliver that number of mushrooms but if I put number of mushrooms they deliver it as weight! I either get a bag with about 4 mushrooms in it or else enough to feed a street full of pixies. That and the fact that whoever packs it doesn't seem to realise that jellied catfood is not the same as supermeat are the reasons I gave up online ordering. Good idea of using it to work out budgets though - I must try that.

    Hi
I think Tesco is the most expensive supermarket and so I think this is a very high cost anyway £2 for 15 freereange eggs in sainsburys, own brand smoothie is cheaper but I would make my own too, or instead have fruit and muesli with juice not milk. Tomato soup - Heinz £2 for 4 cans in Farm Foods, I think you have too much soup in your evening meals, what about stir-fry quick and full of veg, its good that you want to be healthy and I found fortified cereals like weetabix good for snacks - full of vitamins and the milk helps with calcium, bananas are good for energy. For a tread buy your granary bread from the bakers not supermarket get them to slice it and freeze it and take out when you need to all of the other breads stuffs are cheaper in ALDI

To me this just looks very low in calories and you don't need to reduce your calorie intake if you are breast feeding I have breastfed 2 now until age 2 and I found it hard to keep any weight on, You need to add in a bit more healthy fat - maybe avacado, some puddings- rice pudding, fruit and custard, full fat yogurts etc I know there is an expectation on new mums to snap back but it would only make you tired and ill.

Definitely agree with upping your stodge levels. Do not underestimate the importance of cake when breastfeeding.

    ...

Since you're planning ahead, why not see how many frozen meals you can put by between now & your EDD - you'll be very grateful for them in those early days when you feel like a zonked-out-milk-machine.
Good luck when your little one arrives :j

I agree with this. And I was very, very thirsty when I was breastfeeding, too.

That wouldn't have sustained me while I was breastfeeding for the first few months - I was constantly ravenous, and ate all manner of stodge (biscuits, toast etc) at all hours of the day (and night) and still lost weight.

    I agree.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with smoothies, or fruit juice, it's better just to eat the fruit/veg - you get more fibre, for a start. And other nutrients are lost when fruit is processed like this, too. I am not sure if it's true of smoothies, but you can only count one glass of juice towards your five a day - that has something to do with fibre, I believe.

I doubt very much if they are free range tho. All the Asian shops round here are selling the same, or x2 for £2.99. None of them are free range. It is the only thing that I don't compromise on. Not bothered about anything else I buy. The cheaper the better. Just not eggs.
