First Utility Smart Meters

I want to switch my energy supplier from First Utility but have smart meters installed by them. Will this prevent me switching to another supplier unless I pay to have ordinary meters re-fitted?
That shouldn't be necessary. Any other supplier should be able to use your smart meter as a traditional meter and come & read it manually (i.e. they won't use the smart technology)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Dont do it. I have had nothing but problems with First Utility. I am in the middle of a case at the ombusman.0

Hi poshjock, and welcome to MSE :hello:
I'm sorry, but I find your inaugural post somewhat confusing. The OP, also a new member, wishes to move away from First Utility.
Why do you wish to put them off switching to an alternative supplier, when you appear to be in some kind of dispute yourself with that same supplier?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Im in a similar position. Ive been a First Utility customer for a while and had smart meters fitted early May. But they have "lost" the details of my new electricity meter via OnStream who installed it. But they do have my gas meter info?!?
So for the past 3 months I have been getting estimated electricity charges for a meter I do not even have. I have emailed them loads of times and keep getting fobbed off.
Today I have written a complaint to their customer services and told them if its not sorted by the end of July then I am switching suppliers.
The problem is I can't seem to find any other suppliers online who use Smart Meters although I know all homes must have them by 2012?
If anyone has any info to offer on this or knows which suppliers definitely use smart meters then I would very much obliged if you could post the info.0 -

I'm not surprised, First Utility has terrible customer service and was recently slated off on MSN Money's website:

4 months to set up an account (or at least tell the customer that it couldn't be set up!) is ridiculous!!0
