Cancelling Application - Credit Rating

If you submit a current account application online.
Wait a few days for them to prosess it and then decide to phone and cancel tha application, would the bank submit a note on your credit history?
I waited over 7 days for an application to process.
I called to find out the status and the bank claim they have requested some paperwork from me. Submitting the paperwork is no problem but they claim they have to have sent me a secure message requesting this.
Given this is an internet bank, I log on and check for this message and its not there. I dont want to join an internet bank who cant even send a message and process an application.
If I cancel my application will this reflect badly on me? For example would they claim that I had not been prepared to send paperwork or do credit histories not log such information?

There would be no reference to the particular bank on your credit file as no account was actually opened. Depending on how far the application went before you stopped it there may well be a search on the file, but it won't show who made the search, what product it was for, and whether an account was opened.0
