Having problems reinstalling our current router so I want to update it with something else. The one we have now is the linksys G 2.4 ghz but the software is for xp, we use vista. I'm not a PC buff so any advice needs to be in simple terms please, want to get our connection running at a speed that I think is right, our pc is in a spare room with the router in the conservatory andI wondered if that was the problem?? We are on Virgin media if that helps

More information is needed.
You do not state WHAT problems !.
If you do not know how to setup your original router/modem then you will have the same problem with a new one as they all work in a similar fashion. Read the documentation that came with the router, or if it was supplied by Virgin, then their documentation. Also you do not state whether you are on Virgin Cable or Virgin via BT telephone wire.
You do not need software to set up a router/modem, you need your Virgin login and password they supplied to put into the router, to connect to them, then set up the wireless.
Have you tried their help desk ?0 -
Routers don't need any software installing, buying a new one is unlikely to make any difference.
